#BlockTober - Restaurant

For the October #blocktober month I decided to spend two weeks designing a short to medium range combat inside a restaurant, where the players objective is to clear the area and save the survivors.   

 

This level is in-line with criteria provided by the podcast Level Design Lobby. The constraints were as the following;   

 

I want you to create a combat space in a restaurant.

 

- Short to Medium range combat.

 

-The LoS should not be so long for snipers.

 

- There should be multiple flanking routes for players and AI

 

- I need you to make it look like a restaurant with just blockout (no meshes only the power of    cubes)

 

- The combat encounter should only last around 3-5 minutes at most. - The type of restaurant is up to you.

 

- You must provide research and references. - Do not worry about adding working AI just the layout.

With that in mind, I started to create the level using the Unreal Engine 4 with futures of Animation starter pack, Super Grid and Ultra Dynamic Sky.

 

 

Overall Restaurant Level

 

  • Third person Character

  • 1 - 4 players

  • Short to medium range combat

  • Multiple Flanking routes for the player and AI


 

StoryBeasts

 

  • The Players Start outside the restaurant.

  • There are two different entrances, the players can take to enter the restaurant.

  • When the players enter the building they will be an encounter with enemies.

  • When the players kill the enemies the sniper enemies and reinforcements will come.

  • When the players kill the enemies they would go upstairs to locate the map for black market trade, that is taking places in the storages.

  • The players make their way to the location of the storages.

  • Along the way to the storages, the players encounter more reinforcements.

  • In the storages, the players need to stop the trade taking place.

  • When the player kills every enemy and stops the trade level finishes.
